Earth books
This was one of the hardest list to make as there are so many good Earth books out there! But here are some of our favorites that will help you learn more about our Earth and how to take care and enjoy our planet.
The Boy Who Spoke to the Earth Chris Burkard

Simply stunning! Both the illustrations and the simple text draws you right in. The story is told as the Earth talking to the boy, and the boy learning to find happiness all around him in nature. Overall a great book I highly recommend to nature and Earth lovers.

The Water Princess Susan Verde

This book is told from the perspective of Gie Gie, a young girl that lives in Africa. Her job each day is to bring water home to her family. This book exposes children to struggles they may never have thought of, such as how people all around the world manage to find something so simple yet so vital such as water.

Seeds of Change: Wangari’s Gift to the World Jen Cullerton Johnson

This book is based on the life of Wangari Maathai, the first female from Africa to win a Nobel Peace Prize. Wangari’s love of nature and determination to change the world led to her become a political and environmental activist,  focused on planting trees and restoring natural resources all across Africa.

This book teaches kids how to join together and face their problems head on. Even as a kid you can still make a difference in our world.

The Street Beneath My Feet Charlotte Guillain

teaches the layers of the earth, the elements and soil beneath the streets. The illustrations are gorgeous and my kids love that it opens up like an accordion! Good for preschoolers and older children.

A Stone Sat Still Brendan Wenzel

Shows us that even a small stone can be essential to this planet. Each animal views the stone from a different perspective. For some animals it’s simply a resting place and to others it’s their entire world.

An inspiring true story of one African woman named Isatou Ceesay who began a movement to recycle plastic bags and transform her community.

Here We Are Oliver Jeffers

We love the Oliver Jeffers books, but this one is a favorite! It is a beautiful book with 2 beautiful messages: no matter how different we may seem we are all "people", and we all play a part in making our world a better place. The book is told as if read to a baby so it can be read at any age.

The Hike Alison Farrel

Teaches children that nature is a remarkable thing and there are many secrets to learn hidden in the forest. This book is filled with labels highlighting the plants and animals throughout for even more learning.

My Friend Earth Patricia MacLachlan

An enchanting interactive book that shows just how much our Earth does. Earth is shown off as a character for kids to connect and explore with.
