Fairytales

Fairy tales have been some of the most enduring stories throughout history. They're usually simple stories that teach a good lesson—plus, they're just plain fun! This art box takes kids into fairy-tale land with a few classic favorites.

Even if the children aren't familiar with the stories, they can still have a great time creating these art projects. They'll use a paint resist technique to lay out the forest for Little Red Riding Hood. They'll build houses for each of The Three Little Pigs and design-stained glass like we see in Beauty and the Beast. And, don't forget, there's always a bit of magic in fairy tales!

Activities in the Fairytales Box:
Little Red Riding Hood Paint Resist
The paint resist technique is on display in this project as kids tape their paper, paint over it, and remove the tape to reveal what's underneath! They'll also put together a Little Red with paper, a sticker, and a few strips of crinkle paper. Watch out—the Big Bad Wolf is in there too!

Fizzy Jack and the Beanstalk
This project has all the essential elements of this fairy tale: magic beans, a castle in the sky, and a giant beanstalk! Kids get the chance to make their own special paint from baking soda, glitter, and liquid paint. Then they'll add drops of vinegar to make their paint fizz and bubble.

Beauty and the Beast Stained-Glass and Rose
The Beast's enchanted rose takes center stage in this craft project. Children will color a coffee filter and, with a little help from a glass of water, it'll turn into a rose. They'll also design a colorful stained-glass background for the rose. It's a beautiful piece to hang in your window!

Three Little Pigs Science Project
Kids play the Wolf in this fairy tale as they try to blow away each type of building material: straw, sticks, and clay bricks. Which will stay put? Which will fly away? When they're done experimenting, it turns into a fun art project!
